Rocky Mount, N.C. - In the early 1980's, John C. Haggerty was on the baseball team at North Carolina Wesleyan. Although he is no longer playing baseball, he is often found on a baseball diamond as the umpire.

John began officiating high school baseball locally in 1985 shortly after leaving NCWC. Over the years, he has officiated not only regular season high school games, but also two NCHSAA state championship games and six NCIHSAA state championship games.

In addition to umpiring baseball, John has also officiated local area high school basketball and football since 2000. He also adds officiating for one NCHSAA football state championship and the NC/SC football Shrine Bowl championship to his long list of officiating responsibilities.

His officiating career, however, has not been limited to high school sports. In 1995, John began officiating NCAA Division 1, 2 and 3 collegiate baseball and has been asked to officiate in four NCAA regionals and two NCAA Division 1 Super Regionals. Most recently, he was chosen to umpire for the NCAA Division College World Series held in Omaha, Nebraska June 18-30, 2016! On behalf of the Department of Athletics, we offer congratulations to our former Bishop on this noteworthy accomplishment!

A resident of Elm City, NC, John is currently managing Supreme Pools & Supreme Equipment Rental in Wilson, NC.
