Baseball Edges Past Ferrum

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College Baseball team rallied from an early deficit and then scored a late run to break a 7-all tie to defeat former conference rival Ferrum College (Va.) 8-7 at home on Tuesday afternoon.

After trailing 3-1 after two innings, Wesleyan then scored 3 runs each in the 3rd and 4th innings to take a 7-3 lead. However, Ferrum would rally scoring 4 runs over the next two innings to tie the matchup at 7 heading to the 7th inning. NCWC then scored the go-ahead and eventual game-winning run in the 7th inning as senior catcher Brandon Wheat came around to score on a Ferrum balk.

The Bishops were led by RBI doubles from seniors Cedrick Kornegay and Trey Croom and an RBI single from senior Nate Gardner in the third inning while Wheat also drove in two runs on the day.

Leading with multi-hit games was junior 2B Brad Pennington (along with a triple and a stolen base), Croom, and junior OF Moses Vigo while senior OF Logan Andrews also drove in a run with his single.

Sophomore starting pitcher Drew Tubb lasted just 3 innings for the Bishops allowing 4 hits and 3 runs with 2 strikeouts while senior reliever Chris Aubry threw one scoreless inning. Junior Reliever Luke Mills then came on in the 8th to get the 2 inning save with 2 Ks as well.

NCWC improves to 4-3 on the season while Ferrum drops to 4-5. The Bishops are back in action this weekend as they go on the road to face Brevard College (NC) on Saturday in a Noon doubleheader.
