Bishop Baseball Edges Pacers 5-4

CARY, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College Baseball team edged their way past conference rival Peace University 5-4 on the road Friday evening from the USA National Training Complex in Cary.

Senior CF Cedrick Kornegay led the Bishops by driving in three runs with his 2nd inning RBI single and game-winning 2-run triple in the 8th that broke a 3-3 tie.

Senior 1B Trey Croom drove junior 2B Brad Pennington in with a fielder's choice in the first inning before senior LF Logan Andrews' RBI single scored Andrew Nichols in the third to make it 3-0 Bishops. Other than Kornegay, Croom, Nichols, and senior DH Nate Gardner also recorded two-hit games for the Battling Bishops.

Junior reliever Luke Mills (1-1) got the win in relief of starter Brynner Porter by tossing 1 and 2/3 innings of scoreless relief while Porter threw 5 and 1/3 innings allowing 8 hits and 3 runs with a walk and a strikeout.

Junior closer Noah Shrock then picked up the save with a perfect ninth inning. It was his third of the year.

Wesleyan improves to 15-6 overall and 6-3 in the conference with the win while Peace falls to 5-15 and 1-8. The teams are back at it tomorrow at 3 PM for game two from Cary.
