Croom's two Homers not enough in Loss to Piedmont

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College Baseball team fell 7-4 in the first game of the three-game set with conference foe Piedmont College (Ga.) on Friday afternoon in Rocky Mount.

The Bishops used 2 two-run homers from senior 3B Trey Croom to stay in the game while senior CF Cedrick Kornegay and junior 2B Brad Pennington also had good days offensively.

Wesleyan totaled 8 hits in the game all from the top 4 men in the order. Kornegay finished the day 3 for 4 with a walk and a double while Pennington was 2 for 5 and a double as well. Croom then drove in all 4 runs with this multi-homer day. He now has 5 homers on the season along with 31 RBIs.

Senior starting pitcher Brynner Porter threw 4+ innings to get the loss falling to 5-2 on the season. He allowed 6 runs (4 earned) on 8 hits with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. Junior reliever Luke Mills then finished the game tossing 5 innings giving up just one run on 3 hits with 2 Ks as he helped settle down the hard-hitting Piedmont offense. PC scored runs in each of the first 6 innings but were shut out over the final 3 frames.

First place Piedmont improves to 15-3 in the conference and 25-7 overall while the Battling Bishops fall to 12-6 in conference play and 21-11 overall.
