NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The #7 NC Wesleyan College baseball team fell 5-1 on the road at quality non-conference foe Christopher Newport University on Wednesday afternoon.

The Bishops still sit 23-4 on the season while CNU improves to 11-7.

Wesleyan got out to an early 1-0 lead as freshman Jackson Hobbs crushed a solo shot to left field in the fourth. CNU, however, would come right back with a run in the 4th and then scored 3 more in the 5th off Bishop freshman starter Danny Thompson.

Thompson (2-1) ended up throwing 4 and 2/3 innings allowing 4 runs on 7 hits with 3 walks and 8 strikeouts. Junior reliever Zach Woolard then settled things down tossing 3 innings while allowing just one run on 3 hits.

Hobbs led the Bishops by going 3 for 4 with a homer, double, and single while outfielder Zach Lyon also recorded a double. Pinch hitter Jackson Murray also knocked a single off the bench while infielders Tyson Bass and Davie Morgan and senior DH Brad Pennington recorded singles as well.

The Bishops will return to CNU on Friday at 3 PM to again battle the Captains, who are receiving votes in the latest Top 25 poll.
