SVU Hands Bishop Football First Loss, 24-14

Buena Vista, Va. - Tied 14-14 entering the fourth quarter, it was the Knights of Southern Virginia University who got the needed points down the stretch en route to a 24-14 victory over visiting North Carolina Wesleyan on Saturday night.

SVU (1-1) had taken a 14-6 lead in the third quarter only to see senior quarterback John Jackson orchestrate a game-tying drive that he capped with a 10-yard touchdown run. The drive was highlighted by a long completion to junior wideout Greg Edwards and featured the Bishops' first two-point conversion of the season.

The Knights, however, capitalized on some costly Wesleyan miscues in the fourth, including an interception and several key penalties that continually kept the Bishops' backs against the wall. NCWC, in fact, was hit with over 100 yards of penalties on the night.

Complete game statistics were not available at press time.

Now 1-1 on the season, Wesleyan travels to nationally-ranked Salisbury University next Saturday for a 1:00pm road contest.
