No. 7 Salisbury Football Too Much for Bishops

Salisbury, Md. - The No. 7 Salisbury University football team forced five turnovers and limited North Carolina Wesleyan to just 204 yards of offense en route to a 69-6 win over the Battling Bishops at Sea Gull Stadium on Saturday.

SU's Joe Benedetti punched the ball in from 4 yards out just 2:26 into the game for a 7-0 lead and the Seagulls were off and running, forging a 42-0 lead at the half. 

Wesleyan broke up the shutout bid in the third quarter when sophomore tailback Jacques Alston broke free and raced 75 yards for a touchdown with 7:33 left in the period. Alston led NCWC with 126 yards on 10 carries and the score, while quarterback John Jackson was 10-of-16 for 60 yards through the air. NCWC wideout Timaine Moore made a game-high six receptions for 39 yards.

Salisbury had 439 yards of offense, holding the ball for 27:55 for the game. The Sea Gulls' defense recovered three fumbles, picked off two passes, collected five sacks, made 12 tackles-for-loss and blocked an extra point.

Ed Harrington led the Battling Bishop defense with nine tackles (six solo).

Following a bye, Wesleyan kicks off USA South Conference play on September 29th when the Bishops travel to LaGrange College. Kickoff is slated for 1:00pm.
