USA South Announces Postseason Football Awards

Fayetteville, N.C. - The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its 2012 All-Conference awards for football with a total of 90 student-athletes earning All-Conference honors. North Carolina Wesleyan had five athletes garner recognition, led by senior Dwayne Hollis as a First Team selection at both defensive back and return specialist.

Hollis earned First Team honors at two different positions for the second consecutive season after tallying a team-high four interceptions (one returned for TD), five pass break-ups and nine pass deflections.  He added 46 tackles and a fumble recovery to his resume, while return-wise, he averaged over 13 yards per punt return with two touchdowns. On kickoffs, the Newport News, Va. native averaged nearly 24 yards per return with a TD.

He was joined on the All-Conference squad by Second Teamers Jacques Alston and James Wallace. Alston, a sophomore from Kenly, N.C., racked up a team-high 916 all-purpose yards on the ground and through the air this season, scoring eight touchdowns in the process. A junior linebacker from Harrells, N.C., Wallace led the team with 93 total tackles and seven tackles-for-loss.

Additionally, senior defensive linemen Gerald Wells of Virginia Beach, Va. earned Honorable Mention status after turning in 46 tackles with team-best three sacks.

Elsewhere around the league, Ferrum College's Tim Reynolds was named the Offensive Player of the Year, while Christopher Newport University's Paul Dukes earned Offensive Rookie of the Year honors. LaGrange College's Andre Carter was named Defensive Player of the Year, and Maryville College's Gabe Johnson earned Defensive Rookie of the Year accolades. Rounding out the individual awards was Greensboro College Head Coach Bill Young, who was named the Coach of the Year.

The USA South also recognized an All-Sportsmanship Team, consisting of one member from each competing school. The Bishops were represented by senior Lorenzo Haden of Richmond, Va.
