USA South Announces 50th Anniversary Football Team

Fayetteville, N.C. - The 2013-14 season serves as the 50th for the USA South Athletic Conference. In an effort to relive 50 Years of great student-athlete performances, each current League institution was given the opportunity to submit names of student-athletes who competed within the Conference and excelled not only on their campuses, but in the Conference as a whole. The league has begun the release of these 50th Anniversary teams with the sport of football, and N.C. Wesleyan is proud to have placed 30 Bishop players on the squad.

Football is the youngest USA South-sponsored sport on the men's side as the Conference sponsored its first year in the fall of 2001. In the fall of 2000, no team title was awarded, but the league kept statistics and awarded an All-Conference team. Play has always been competitive within the Conference, as evidenced by the fact that the regular season championship has been shared on eight occasions.

N.C. Wesleyan, which started its program in 2004, has captured three of those crowns, which includes a pair of undefeated conference seasons in 2007 and 2009. In nine seasons of play, Wesleyan boasts a 40-22 mark in USA South play and remains the only league affiliate to win a postseason playoff game, having upset top-seeded Washington & Jefferson in 2007. Additionally, the Bishops have earned 14 Player and/or Rookie of the Year Awards, as well as a pair of Coach of the Year honors.

Below are the names and a brief summary of accolades for those Battling Bishops named to the 50th Anniversary Team. On behalf of the Department of Athletics, we congratulate each of these men on this noteworthy recognition.
