Alston, Marshall Tabbed League Players of the Week

Fayetteville, N.C. - The USA South Athletic Conference has released its weekly awards for September 15th with a pair of football Bishops garnering recognition. Jacques Alston was tabbed the league's Offensive Player of the Week, while teammate Travonne Marshall earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades. The two helped the Bishops secure a 27-0 victory over Lincoln University on Saturday.

Jacques Alston, N.C. WesleyanThe senior running back from Kenly, North Carolina rushed for 177 yards and scored three touchdowns in Wesleyan's victory over the Lions. Alston carried the ball 24 times for an average of 7.4 yards per rush with a long gain of 57 yards. He is now just 78 yards shy of NCWC's all-time rushing record.

Football Defensive Player of the Week
Travonne Marshall, N.C. WesleyanThe sophomore defensive back from nearby Tarboro recorded nine total tackles in the Bishops' shutout of Lincoln. Marshall tallied six solo tackles and three assisted takedowns, including two tackles resulting in a loss of nine yards. He helped anchor a Wesleyan defense that gave up just 210 total yards en route to the program's first shutout since 2011.
