Rocky Mount, N.C. - The North Carolina Wesleyan Department of Athletics and head football coach Jeff Filkovski are pleased to announce that senior running back Jacques Alston has been named a First Team All-American by the AFCA (American Football Coaches Association). Alston becomes just the second Battling Bishop in history to garner such recognition, joining former NCWC standout Dwayne Hollis as an honoree. Additionally, the Kenly, N.C. native was named a First Team All-American by USA College Football, the first such honor for a Wesleyan player.

The AFCA has selected an All-America team since 1945 and currently selects teams in all five of its divisions. What makes these teams so special is that they are the only ones chosen exclusively by the coaches themselves.

In addition to his AFCA and USACF recognition, Alston was also named to D3Football.com's All-South Region team earlier in the week. While numerous USA South institutions were selected by D3Football.com and USA College Football, Alston was the lone player from the conference to garner AFCA accolades.

The awards come on the heels of a stellar performance by Alston at the December 6th National Bowl held at Florida International University in Miami, Florida. With more than 40 professional scouts in attendance, Alston led his Blue Nation team to a 17-14 victory over Red Nation, earning Most Valuable Offensive Player accloades in the process.

The postseason performance is one of two Alston will be making in December. He will join senior teammate James Wallace at the D3 Senior Classic later in the month. As USA College Football All-American, Alston is also invited to participate in the 21st Annual USA Football Bowl In Jackson, Miss. from January 16 to January 20, 2015.

Alston recently ended his Bishop career as the program's all-time leading rusher with 3,907 yards. This season, he led the USA South in rushing with 1,460 total yards and 15 total touchdowns. For his efforts, he was named the league's Offensive Player of the Year.

A linebacker, Wallace turned in a stellar senior season that saw him break the program's career record for tackles with 317 during his Wesleyan tenure. This season alone, the former USA South Defensive Rookie of the Year led the team in total stops with 89, which ranked fourth in the league.

Congratulations to Jacques on his postseason awards, and good luck to both Jay and James at the D3 Senior Classic!
