NCWC Softball Cruises to Sweep of Salem

Rocky Mount, N.C. - Freshman Logan Tollison went 4-for-6 with six RBIs to lead her Battling Bishop softball squad to a two-game sweep of Salem College on Saturday afternoon at Edge Field. The Bishops took game one by a 10-1 tally before turning in an 8-0 shutout in the nightcap. Wesleyan is now 9-3 on the season.

In the opener, the Bishops scored all ten of their runs over the first three innings, beginning with RBI-singles by Tollison and Amanda Warley in the opening frame. Tollison and Warley again drove in runs during a five-run second inning, while a three-spot in the third was highlighed by a two-run homer by senior Meredith Mills.

Sophomore hurler Leanna Fann moved to 6-1 on the season, scattering just three hits over five complete and allowing one run (unearned).

In addition to Tollison and Warley, freshman Carla Matthews also had two hits to go along with three runs scored.

The finale saw Tollison deliver a two-run double in the first inning for an early Bishop lead. NCWC added four runs in the fourth, which again saw the freshman rip a two-run double, while Matthews and senior Dani Abbey each drove in runs in the fifth to secure the 8-0 final.

Matthews, Tollison and Abbey each had a pair of hits for the Bishops, who tallied ten as a team. Freshman pitcher Kelsi Bailey (3-2) picked up the win in the circle, tossing a complete-game three-hitter with five strikeouts.

Wesleyan opens up USA South play on Wednesday against Christopher Newport University. Game one is slated for a 2:30pm start at Edge Field.
