Virginia Beach, Va. - Sophomore Maria Seay went 4-for-5 with a pair of RBIs, but it would not be enough as the Battling Bishop softball team was swept at Virginia Wesleyan on Tuesday to wrap up the regular season. The Marlins (19-9) took game one by a 5-3 score before earning a 4-0 shutout in game two.

In the opener, Seay delivered a two-run single in the sixth to give the Bishops a late 2-1 advantage. The lead, however, was shortlived as the Marlins answered with a four-spot in their half of the frame.  Freshman Carla Matthews blasted her team-leading fifth homerun of the season in the seventh to pull NCWC to within two, but the Bishops would get no closer.

Sophomore hurler Leanna Fann (10-8) suffered the loss, going the distance and allowing five runs on eight hits.

Game two saw Marlin pitching dominate, holding the Bishops to just three singles on the game -- one each by Seay, Matthews and Jessica Hodges.  Freshman Kelsi Bailey (6-10) took the loss in the circle.

The Bishops will now focus their attention on this weekend's USA South Conference Tournament in Burlington. As the 9th seed, NCWC (16-18) will face 8th-seeded William Peace at 9:00am Friday morning. The Bishops and Pacers split their regular season meeting.
