Mills Highlights Softball Postseason Awards

Fayetteville, N.C. - The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its 2012 postseason awards for softball with a total of 55 student-athletes earning All-Conference recognition. North Carolina Wesleyan had four players earn accolades, highlighted by senior Meredith Mills being named to the Second Team.

Mills picks up the second All-Conference honor of her stellar career, having earned First Team recognition as a junior.  She currently boasts a .357 batting average and has driven in a team-best 32 runs on the season. Sophomore second baseman Carly Creef joins her as a Third Team selection after leading the team in batting average (.406), hits (39) and sac-bunts (6) during the regular season.  

Freshman Carla Matthews also earned recogntion as an Honorable Mention in the outfield. Matthews has blasted a team-high five homeruns thusfar this season and also leads the team in walks (19) and on-base percentage (.456).

Finally, freshman Brittni Jones represented the Battling Bishops on the league's All-Sportsmanship team.

Elsewhere around the league, Christopher Newport University's Sabrina Hill collected both Player and Rookie of the Year accolades while her teammate, Whitney Haller, earned Pitcher of the Year honors. Methodist University's Kayla Malone picked up Rookie Pitcher of the Year honors, while Meredith College's Kim Scavone took home Coach of the Year accolades.
