Softball Bishops Win Trio of Games in Triangle Classic

Rocky Mount, N.C. - North Carolina Wesleyan's softball team took part in the Triangle Classic this weekend, hosting six games at Edge Field. Competition was also held in Raleigh with William Peace and Meredith serving as co-hosts. The Battling Bishops faired well by picking up a trio of wins, downing opponents from Neumann, Hood and Wilson to close out the tourney. NCWC's lone defeat came at the hands of nationally-ranked Salisbury by a 3-1 score.

Wesleyan opened play on Saturday with the 3rd-ranked Seagulls, who scored all three runs off of pair of homers in the second and sixth innings. Junior Kendra Hoes got the Bishops on the board when she drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth, and Wesleyan proceeded to load the bases in the top of the seventh. SU, however, got out of the jam with a force-out and strikeout to end the game and upset bid.

Senior Brittni Jones had two of the Bishops' four hits in the game.

Wesleyan rebounded in the late game with a 6-3 win over Neumann College. The Bishops opened up a 3-0 lead in the first inning on RBIs by senior Paige Pritchett and junior Sarah Roberts. The two, in fact, combined to go 5-for-7 at the plate with four RBIs in the game.

On Sunday, NCWC cruised to 12-2 and 10-1 wins over Hood and Wilson, respectively. Pritchett continued her stellar play with five hits and four runs driven in over the two-game set.

Bishop hurlers Leanna Fann, Jasmine Edgren and Cindy Allen each picked up wins in the tourney, with Fann also earning a save versus Neumann.

The Bishops (3-3) return to action on Tuesday when they host a home doubleheader with Salem College. Game one is slated for a 2:00pm start at Edge Field.
