Ferrum, Va. - In Saturday's USA South softball action, N.C. Wesleyan split a pair of games at Ferrum College, falling in game one by an 8-0 score before bouncing back for a 5-4 extra-inning win in game two. Sophomore Jasmine Edgren went the distance in the nightcap, scattering nine hits over eight innings with six strikeouts.

In the opener, the Bishops managed six hits as a team but stranded seven runners en route to the shutout. Junior Sarah Roberts paced NCWC with a 2-for-3 showing at the plate, while senior Leanna Fann (4-4) suffered the loss on the mound.

The Bishops broke through in the third inning of game two by plating a pair of runs on Carly Creef and Brittni Jones RBIs. Ferrum tied it up in their half of the frame, but a Jones RBI-double in the fifth brought Creef around for a 3-2 Bishop lead heading into the final innings.

After Ferrum knotted the score by scratching an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh, NCWC's Paige Pritchett and Roberts would drive home runs in the eighth, with Roberts' RBI-double proving to be the game-winner.  Edgren went on to secure the win with a pair of Ks and a groundout in the Panthers' final at-bat.

Creef finished 3-for-4 at the plate, while Pritchett and junior Kendra Hoes ripped two hits apiece.

The Bishops (10-10, 5-3 USA South) continue league play on Wednesday when they travel to Greensboro College for a pair of make-up contests. Game one is slated for a 2:00pm start.
