Rocky Mount, N.C. / Greensboro, N.C. - The Battling Bishop softball team of N.C. Wesleyan split a pair of USA South doubleheaders over the past two days, downing Meredith in the opener of Wednesday's home finale before knocking off Greensboro in game one of Thursday's road twinbill. Senior Jessica Hodges paced the Bishops with six hits over the four-game span, which included the eventual game-winning RBI-double in Wesleyan's victory over the Pride.

Wednesday saw the Bishops take down Meredith by a 2-0 score in game one at Edge Field. Paige Pritchett gave Wesleyan all the offense it would need with an RBI-double in the third, while junior Sarah Roberts later singled and scored on a wild pitch in the sixth to provide the 2-0 final.

Senior Leanna Fann turned in a stellar performance to earn the complete game shutout, scattering seven hits and walking just one en route to victory. Junior Kendra Hoes had two of the Bishops' six hits as a team.

The Angels rebounded for a 7-4 win in the nightcap thanks to a three-run homer in the fifth that erased a 4-4 tie. NCWC senior Brittni Jones led Wesleyan at the plate with a pair of hits and two RBIs.

On Thursday at Greensboro, Wesleyan plated single runs in the first, third and fourth innings... the latter coming on Hodges' RBI-double that made the score 3-0. The Pride answered with two runs of their own in the fourth and fifth to make things interesting, but senior Maria Seay singled home Hodges in the sixth to provide the Bishops with an insurance run down the stretch.

It was more than enough for Fann (7-5), who picked up her third straight win in the circle. Seay finished 3-for-3 at the plate, while Hodges went 2-for-3 on the day.

Greensboro went on to secure a 4-0 shutout in the finale to secure the split.

The Bishops (14-14, 9-7 USA South) return to action on Sunday when they travel to Mary Baldwin College. Game one is slated for a 2:00pm start.
