Wesleyan Softball Sweeps Wilson to Even Record

Rocky Mount, N.C. - N.C. Wesleyan turned in a twinbill sweep of Wilson College on Saturday afternoon at Edge Field, knocking off the Phoenix by 10-1 and 3-1 scores. Peyton Hyler blasted her first collegiate homerun in the opener, while fellow freshman Logan Lowery tossed a one-hitter in game two en route to her first win in the circle.

The Bishops scored in all four of their at-bats in the first game. In addition to Hyler's first-inning homer, Wesleyan got production from freshman Alicia Burns, who went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a pair of runs scored. Senior Sarah Roberts also drove two with an RBI-single in the fourth that allowed the game to be called in five innings.

Junior hurler Jasmine Edgren (1-1) picked up the win, going the distance and allowing just one run on two hits with six strikeouts.

In the nightcap, Wilson took a 1-0 lead in the first on a bunt single and error that plated a run. The Bishops, however, scratched two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame on a two-out, two-run single by senior Kendra Hoes.

Freshman Natalie Boykin's RBI-single in the fourth made it 3-1, which was more than enough for Lowery (1-0). The freshman dominated after the first inning, sitting down 17 straight batters at one point. She finished with eight strikeouts over seven complete.

The Bishops (2-2) open up USA South play at Averett University on Sunday at noon.
