Maryville, Tenn. - In USA South softball action, senior Kendra Hoes scored the game-winning run in extra innings to lift her Bishops to a 3-2 win in Monday's opener at Maryville College. The Scots bounced back with a 3-2 victory in the nightcap to secure the split.

In game one, junior Carla Matthews and freshman Peyton Hyler gave the Bishops a 2-0 lead with RBIs in the fourth that plated Hoes and Sarah Bowyer. The Scots proceeded to knot the score with single runs in the fourth and fifth.

NCWC hurler Jasmine Edgren got out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh to force extras, and in the top of the eighth, Hoes came around to score the eventual gamewinner on a wild pitch and throwing error.

Edgren (8-2) went the distance, allowing two runs (one earned) on nine hits with four strikeouts.

Game two was also a tight affair that saw Wesleyan twice hold one-run leads. Down 2-1 in the fifth, the Scots tied the score on a Rachel Taylor homer to center and later took the lead on an RBI-groundout.

Freshman Logan Lowery (2-8) again took the one-run loss in the circle, giving up three runs on eight hits with four Ks. Sophomore Brittany Manning paced the Bishop offense with a 2-for-4 showing at the plate.

The Bishops (10-12, 6-8 USA South) continue conference play on Friday at Meredith College. Game one is scheduled for 1:00pm in Raleigh.
