Raleigh, N.C. - In Saturday's USA South softball action, N.C. Wesleyan posted a two-game sweep of Meredith College in Raleigh. Sarah Bowyer blasted a seventh-inning grand slam to help the Bishops earn a 7-6 win in game one, and NCWC went on to sweep with a 4-3 victory in the nightcap.

In the opener, the Angels (11-9, 1-3 USA South) took a 6-2 lead into the top of the seventh. Freshman Shelby Godwin got the Bishop rally started with a double to left center, which was followed by a Jasmine Edgren single to left. After a fly-out to right, sophomore Peyton Hyler drew a walk to load the bases, and sophomore Alicia Burns made it 6-3 with an RBI-single to center.

After a Meredith pitching change, the stage was set for Bowyer who connected on her first homer of the season to give NCWC a 7-6 edge. Sophomore Logan Lowery (3-3) proceeded to get out of bases loaded jam in the bottom of the frame to secure her third win of the season.

Bowyer finished 3-for-3 and Burns 3-for-4 to pace the Bishop offense.

In game two, Godwin's RBI-single in the top of the fifth broke a 3-3 tie and gave Wesleyan the eventual sweep. Godwin (2-1) also picked up the win in the circle after going five complete, while Lindsey Sharpe notched her second save with two hitless innings of work.

Junior Brittany Manning, who scored the game-winning run, managed a 3-for-4 showing at the plate with two RBIs.

The threat of inclement weather forced the postponed of Sunday's twinbill versus William Peace. Stay tuned to www.ncwcsports.com for a make-up date. The Bishops (7-7, 4-2 USA South) will now prepare to travel to Guilford College on Wednesday for a 2:00pm match-up with the Quakers.
