USA South Announces Postseason Softball Awards

Fayetteville, N.C. - The USA South Athletic Conference has released its 2016 postseason awards in the sport of softball. Four Battling Bishops were among 52 student-athletes garnering recognition, led by senior Jasmine Edgren as a First Team selection in the outfield.

Edgren becomes a three-time All-Conference performer during her career, having earned Third Team honors as a freshman and Honorable Mention status last season. She led the team with a .400 batting average in USA South play and a solid .967 fielding percentage. Thought selected in the outfield, Edgren also posted a 1-1 record on the mound, including a four-hit shutout of Methodist on Senior Day.

Joining Edgren as Second Team picks were junior shortstop Brittany Manning and sophomore pitcher Logan Lowery, who each improved on their Honorable Mention status from last season. Manning led the team in nearly every offensive category, including batting average (.405), slugging percentage (.664), runs (22), and homers (5). Lowery, who has won eight straight starts, tied for the league lead with 10 conference wins on the mound and posted an impressive 1.59 ERA versus league opponents.

Rounding out Wesleyan's honorees was junior Abigail Leonard, who was named to the USA South All-Sportsmanship team for a third straight year.

Elsewhere around the league, Averett's Jessica Long collected Player of the Year accolades, while her teammate, Mary Beth Smith, was named Pitcher of the Year. The Piedmont duo of Hannah Hoban and Melissa Eckman earned Rookie of the Year and Rookie Pitcher of the Year, respectively, and Maryville's Leah Kelley garnered her first Coach of the Year nod.
