Rocky Mount, N.C. - The N.C. Wesleyan Department of Athletics is pleased to announce that senior outfielder Kaitlyn Checkan has been named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District Team selected by CoSIDA. These selections recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

Checkan turned in a stellar senior season that saw her garner USA South First Team All-East Division honors after batting .375 and leading the team in runs scored (35), walks (24), and on-base percentage (.509) during the regular season. All three stats ranked in the league's top-10 overall, while the Cary, N.C. native also tied for the conference lead with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in centerfield.

She followed up her on-field performance with NCWC Female Student-Athlete of the Year honors in April. An Exercise Science major and Biology minor, Checkan was recognized as her sport's Co-Most Valuable Player and Co-Scholar Athlete, ending her career as a four-time member of both the President's List and the USA South Academic All-Conference Team. She was one of only 11 players recognized in District 5 and one of just two honored within USA South.

The Google Cloud Academic All-District® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division. To view the entire All-District team from each division, please visit http://academicallamerica.com/documents/2018/5/10//Acad_Softball_2018.pdf?id=2850.
