ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The N.C. Wesleyan College Softball team dropped their season opener at home 9-3 to Guilford College (N.C.) on Wednesday afternoon. Game two was canceled due to darkness/weather concerns.

Guilford (3-0) got out to a fast start in the 1st inning hitting a two-run home run to stake out a 2-0 lead on the Bishops.

The Lady Bishops would rally though, scoring two runs in the bottom of the second via a walk and a HBP as Guilford's pitcher struggled with her control.

However, GC would then put up a 4 spot in the 4th inning on the strength of a 3-run homer to lead 6-2. Wesleyan would get one back in the bottom half on a Bryona Knight RBI triple before GC put the game away with a three-run 5th.

Knight, a sophomore 1B, ended up driving in two runs on the day while freshman outfielder Rylee Wheeler also drove in a run. Sophomore Catcher Kayla Molivas led the Bishops with two hits on the afternoon while sophomore pitcher/1B Beth Braswell also recorded a double.

Braswell also started the game on the mound and tossed 5 innings allowing 9 runs on 8 hits and 7 walks with 4 strikeouts while senior reliever Shelby Godwin tossed two scoreless frames as well.

Wesleyan falls to 0-1 and will next go on the road to battle USA South West Division foes Piedmont (Ga.) and Brevard on Saturday at 1:00 and Sunday at Noon.
