RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College softball team picked up two big wins on Saturday afternoon in Raleigh. The Lady Bishops first knocked off 12th ranked Rowan University (NJ) 3-1 before defeating rival William Peace 10-0 in 6 innings in non-conference action.

Sophomore pitcher Beth Braswell led the Bishops in game one allowing just one run to Rowan with 6 strikeouts over 7 innings pitched as Wesleyan would go on to win 3-1. Braswell improves to 3-2 on the season.

Senior pitcher Shelby Godwin then started game two and dominated the Pacers throwing 6 shutout innings allowing just one hit with 8 strikeouts to pick up her first win (1-3) as the Bishops would pile on 10 runs of offense in the big win.

Leading the 15-hit attack on offense was sophomore catcher Summer Phillips, who went 3 for 4 with a home run and 3 RBIs while sophomore 3B Chelsea Nixon and senior Hannah Ivester each went 2 for 3 with Nixon adding 3 RBIs as well. Braswell also went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and a double as five different Lady Bishops would tally multi-hit games. Ivester and Shelby Godwin recorded doubles with outfielder Nichole Mooney also knocking two hits.

The two wins improve the Bishops to 4-5 on the season. These two non-conference games were added to the schedule to replace the VA Wesleyan Beach Blast tournament that was canceled this weekend. Rowan falls to 2-3 overall while Peace goes to 4-6 on the season.

NC Wesleyan is back in action on Tuesday as the Bishops return home to host Greensboro College to open conference play at 2 PM.
