Braswell and Godwin Lead Lady Bishops to DH Sweep of Methodist

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Sophomore pitcher and current USA South Pitcher of the week, Beth Braswell, helped lead the NC Wesleyan College softball team to a game one win over conference rival Methodist University with her 7 shutout innings as the Bishops took it 4-0. Wesleyan then rolled past the Monarchs in game two 10-0 as the Lady Bishops have now won their 8th game in a row.

Braswell allowed just 3 hits with no runs, 3 walks and 8 strikeouts in the win, her 6th of the year. 

Sophomore 1B Bryona Knight got the Bishops on the board in the 2nd with her RBI single while senior Hannah Ivester's RBI single and sophomore CF Nichole Mooney's sac fly made it 3-0 in the 5th. The Bishops then added another run in the 6th on a Methodist error to make it 4-0. Ivester led Wesleyan with 2 RBIs while Knight had the only multi-hit game as the Bishops outhit the Monarchs 7-3 overall.

NCWC 10, MU 0 (5 INNINGS)

Wesleyan then dominated game two pitching-wise and offensively scoring 9 runs over the 3rd and 4th innings to roll to the 10-0 win in just 5 innings.  

Senior pitcher Shelby Godwin led the way throwing all 5 shutout innings allowing 2 hits and one walk with 5 strikeouts. She is now 4-3 on the year with a 1.59 ERA.

Mooney led the Bishops offensively by going 3 for 3 and scoring three runs. Godwin, sophomore shortstop Meredith Mize, and sophomore catcher Kayla Molivas all hit for extra bases as well while with Molivas' coming on a 3-run double in the 3rd inning. Braswell drove in two runs on a RBI single and an error while Mize drove in two on a 4th inning double. Sophomore catcher Summer Phillips also had an RBI single as Welseyan totaled 13 hits.

The Bishops improve to 10-5 overall and 4-0 in the conference with the sweep while Methodist falls to 7-15 and 0-2 in conference.

Wesleyan returns home Saturday and Sunday to host Meredith and Averett at 1:00 and Noon respectively.
