Softball Wins 10th Straight

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College softball team rolled to a doubleheader sweep of conference foe Meredith College on Saturday taking game one 9-2 and game two 9-1 in 5 innings as they have now won 10 straight games.

NCWC 9, MEREDITH 2

Sophomore pitcher Beth Braswell led the Bishops to a game one win with her three-run home run and 7 innings pitched. She allowed just 4 hits and 2 runs the whole game with just 2 walks and 4 strikeouts while batting 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs.

Senior Shelby Godwin and sophomore shortstop Meredith Mize also drove in runs with RBI singles while Wesleyan added 3 more runs in the 5th on a wild pitch and Meredith errors before a Mize RBI double capped the scoring in the 6th.

Mize went 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs while Godwin, Brianna Myers and Bryona Knight also recorded multi-hit games as part of Wesleyan's 8-person 14-hit attack.

NCWC 9, MEREDITH 1 (5 INNINGS)

Godwin (5-3) then pitched 5 very quick innings allowing 6 hits and one run to help Wesleyan to the sweep lowering her ERA to 1.57. The Bishops scored three runs each in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd innings including back-to-back-to-back RBI singles in the first from Braswell, Meredith Smith, and catcher Summer Phillips.

Smith then drove in two more in the 6th on a single as she went 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs. Senior RF Hannah Ivester also went 2 for 2 with 3 runs scored while Mize added two more hits to her big day.

Wesleyan improves to 12-5 on the year and 6-0 in the conference while MC falls to 3-13 and 0-2. Wesleyan is back at it tomorrow to host Averett at 12 pm.
