Softball falls 8-7 in 10 Innings to Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College Softball team lost a heartbreaker in game two of their non-conference DH at Greensboro College on Wednesday. The Lady Bishops fell 7-1 in game one and 8-7 in 10 innings in game two.

GAME 1: GC 7, NCWC 1

The Pride got out to a 3-0 lead on the Bishops in game one before Wesleyan got on the board in the 3rd on pitcher Beth Braswell's RBI single that scored CF Nichole Mooney.

GC would go on to score 4 more runs off Braswell to win the first game. Braswell (9-5) threw 6 innings allowing only 4 earned runs on 6 hits, but walked eight with 2 strikeouts. LF Logan Winstead went 2 for 4 in the defeat.

GAME 2: GC 8, NCWC 7 (10)

Braswell and SS Meredith Mize got Wesleyan off to a 2-0 lead in the 3rd inning with their sacrifice files before GC took a 4-2 lead with a 4-run third inning. Wesleyan then took a 5-4 lead in the 6th on an RBI double from Braswell, a single from Kayla Molivas, and an RBI single from catcher Summer Phillips, who finished with 3 hits in the game.  Winstead also added two more hits including a triple improving her average to .417 on the year.

GC would tie it in the 6th before Wesleyan again took a lead with a Bryona Knight RBI single in the 8th, but GC tied it again in the bottom half. The game would then go to the ninth where Mooney drove in Knight to give Wesleyan a 7-6 lead. Unfortunately, after GC tied it again in the 9th with a sac fly, they would go on to win it in the 10th 8-7.

Senior pitcher Grace Preston (2-7) would throw all 9-plus innings allowing just 4 earned runs, but 13 hits with 3 walks.

Wesleyan falls to 12-12 on the year while GC improves to 23-7.

The Bishops will now return home to host Meredith College on Saturday at 1:00 in USA South action.
