Raleigh, N.C. - Sophomores Tiffany Bell and Shanice Goree combined for 45 points, six assists and six steals on Saturday afternoon, but it would not be enough as the North Carolina Wesleyan women's basketball team dropped a high-scoring USA South tilt at Meredith by a 93-82 score. Two key runs by the Avenging Angels (one in each half) essentially sealed Wesleyan's fate, leaving the Battling Bishops with a 3-3 overall record and 1-1 conference mark entering the holiday break.

NCWC led by as many at 14 in the first half, forging a 45-31 advantage with just over three minutes left in the period. The Angels proceeded to close out the half with the first of those two runs -- a 16-7 spurt that pulled them to within five at the break, 52-47. 

Wesleyan led by as many as eight early in the second half only to see Meredith battle back to knot the score at 62-62 with 11:52 remaining. The ensuing 21-4 Meredith run over the next five minutes allowed the Angels to pull away for the victory.

Despite the loss, the Bishops managed their highest point total of the season as Bell knocked down 4-of-6 attempts from the behind the arc and Goree went a perfect 6-for-6 at the charity stripe. The duo finished with 24 and 21 points, respectively. Junior Samantha Urquhart also turned in a solid performance with a double-double of 13 points and 17 rebounds. Sophomore Monet Edwards chipped in 13 points as well.

For Meredith (2-2, 1-1 USA South), Megan Rahn poured in a game-high 36 points to go along with eight rebounds, six steals and five assists.

The Bishops will now break for the holidays before returning to action at home on December 30th versus Lyndon State at 2:00pm.
