Bishops Take Down Brevard, Face Greensboro Saturday for Conference Championship

Rocky Mount, NC - The NC Wesleyan women's basketball team defeated Brevard 68-62 to advance to the USA South Championship Thursday night. Wesleyan was led in scoring by Karyisma Harrison who had 16 points and 9 rebounds for the contest. The Bishops also had 3 other players in double digits with Nadia Simmons scoring 12, Corynthian Williams contributing 14, and Destiny Bell putting up 11 off the bench.

A second-half rally was able to push Wesleyan past the Tornados and defense was a big reason why. Brevard was held to 30% shooting from 3 in the game and the Bishops' stifling defense forced the Tornados to commit 18 turnovers. However, the biggest key to the game was rebounding. Not only did the Bishops have 3 starters in double digits, but Coach Trader's squad also was able to have 3 starters with 9 rebounds. In addition to Williams, Nadia Simmons, and Corynthian Williams also ended the game with 9 boards. Wesleyan then was able to outrebound Brevard in the game 47-34, to clinch the championship birth.

Saturday will mark the 2nd time in the past 3 seasons both basketball programs will compete for a conference tournament championship on the same day. The women will tip-off at 4:30 Saturday at Greensboro.
