Rocky Mount, N.C. - Sophomore Shanice Goree hit a pair of huge three-pointers in the last five minutes to help lift her Battling Bishops to a 73-67 USA South win over Meredith College on Saturday afternoon in Everett Gymnasium. Goree's second trey tied the score at 61-61 with 2:37 remaining, while a three-point play by junior Samantha Urquhart at the 1:33 mark gave Wesleyan a 66-64 lead they would not relinquish.

Now winners of five of their last six games, the Bishops move to 9-7 on the season, 6-5 in conference play.

Wesleyan seemed to have taken control of the game midway the first half, going up 21-11 at the 11:19 mark. But despite having leading scorer Megan Rahn on the bench in foul trouble, the Angels managed a 12-1 run to take their first lead of the day on a Rebekah Cox jumper with five minutes remaining. It was back-and-forth for the remainder of the half, with a Cox lay-up eventually giving Meredith a 34-31 advantage at the break.

In the second half, Meredith led by as many as seven points, 47-40, with 12:22 remaining and managed to keep the Bishops at arm's length until Goree's heroics.

Goree finished with 16 on the day, while Urquhart tallied a double-double of 18 points and 13 boards. Freshman Derreon Cole played a key role off the bench with 13 points and a pair of assists. Also of note, head coach Artina Trader and her staff showed their support of the NABC's Coaches vs. Cancer "Suits and Sneakers" Initiative by sporting tennis shoes during the contest.

Meredith (5-12, 3-8 USA South) had five players reach double-figures, led by Keyanka Bailey with 14.

Wesleyan returns to action on Tuesday when the Bishops travel to Christopher Newport University for a 5:30pm match-up with the Captains.
