Frostburg, Md. - In Saturday afternoon women's hoops action, North Carolina Wesleyan secured the 2011 Jim Crawley Tournament championship with a 56-47 victory over Grove City in the title game hosted by Frostburg State University. Sophomore A'leisha Henderson netted eight points in the final five minutes to help Wesleyan seal the victory, earning the sophomore guard Most Valuable Player honors. She was joined on the All-Tournament team by junior Samantha Urquhart and sophomore Tiffany Bell.

The Bishops had previously punched their championship ticket with a 52-49 victory over host Frostburg on Friday evening. Tied 46-46 with 1:08 remaining, Urquhart went a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line down the stretch to help the Bishops pull away for their first win of the season.

Urquhart finished with 11 points and nine rebounds, while Bell chipped in a game-high 13 points to go along with eight boards and four steals.

In Saturday's title game, Grove City managed a slim 28-24 lead at break. The Bishops, however, quickly erased the deficit with a pair of Urquhart lay-ups inside the first minute of the second half.

The game would feature one more tie, 32-32, at the 14:57 mark before Shanice Goree put NCWC on top for good with a pair of free throws just seconds later. The free throws sparked a 19-8 run by the Bishops that gave them their biggest lead at 51-40 with just under five minutes remaining. Grove City got no closer than six the rest of the way as Henderson shut the door with eight of her team-high 15 points.

Goree and Urquhart each had 12 points apiece, while Bell chipped in nine points, five rebounds and four steals. As a team, Wesleyan shot 41 percent from the floor in the second half and forced 31 turnovers on the night defensively.

The Bishops (2-1) travel to Newport News Apprentice on Tuesday night for a 6:00pm contest versus the Builders.
