Wesleyan Snaps Skid With 68-57 Victory Over MBC

Rocky Mount, N.C. - Samantha Urquhart netted a team-high 17 points, and the duo of Monet Edwards and Shelby Jackson combined for 21 rebounds to help lead their Battling Bishop women's basketball team to a 68-57 league victory over Mary Baldwin College on Wednesday night in Everett Gym. The win snaps a three-game skid for the Bishops, who move to 5-6 on the season, 2-4 in USA South play.

The first half featured six ties and seven lead changes en route to a 31-31 tie at the break.

It was back-and-forth for much of the second half as Wesleyan managed a slim 49-46 advantage with 6:57 left in regulation. It was then that the Bishops put together a 13-5 run to go up 62-51 with a little over two minutes remaining, which proved to be the difference in the contest.

A physical game throughout, the two teams combined for 56 fouls and 74 free throws on the night. Urquhart went 8-of-10 at the charity stripe, while Tiffany Bell connected on 7-of-8 and finished with 15 points. Sophomore Kourtney Salisbury chipped in four steals defensively, as did Urquhart.

For Baldwin (3-6, 1-5 USAS), Sabrina Desper turned in a game-high 18 points.

Wesleyan will now prepare to host Shenandoah University on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is slated for 2:00pm in Rocky Mount.
