Rocky Mount, N.C. - Mary Baldwin got 28 points from Shanice Miles and 27 from Sabrina Desper to hand North Carolina Wesleyan a 78-69 defeat in Wednesday night's USA South women's basketball action. The loss leaves the Bishops with a 10-10 overall record and 7-8 conference mark.
Baldwin led 44-33 at the break, and the Bishops got no closer than four in the second half, 69-65, which came on a Monet Edwards three-pointer with 3:47 remaining. The Squirrels answered with Meagan Barron jumper and later knocked down 3-of-4 free throw attempts in the final minute to seal the victory.
Freshman Derreon Cole led Wesleyan with a team-high 14 points, while junior Samantha Urquhart pulled down 15 rebounds.
Wesleyan continues play on Saturday when the Bishops travel to Shenandoah for a 2:00pm contest versus the Hornets.
