Bishops Earn Season Sweep of Hornets, 64-53

Winchester, Va. - The Battling Bishop women's basketball team completed a season sweep of USA South foe Shenandoah University with a 64-53 victory over the Hornets on Saturday in Winchester. With the win, Wesleyan moves to 11-10 on the season and evens its conference mark at 8-8.

After trading 8-2 runs to open the contest, the Hornets managed a slim 15-14 lead with just under ten minutes left in first half. It was then that junior Leann Breeden knocked down a huge three-pointer that put Wesleyan on top 17-15. The Bishops would not trail again as NCWC eventually turned a 37-22 halftime lead into a 19-point advantage early in the second half.

Shenandoah did manage to pull within seven, 45-38, with 11:31 remaining, but back-to-back jumpers by Samantha Urquhart and A'leisha Henderson once again extended NCWC's lead to double figures. The Hornets (9-13, 6-9 USA South) got no closer than nine the rest of the way.

Sophomore Tiffany Bell had a game-high 12 points for the Bishops, while Urquhart chipped 11 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Derreon Cole continued her impressive play of late with nine points off the bench.

For SU, Kerby Hatter netted 10 points.

Wesleyan travels to Methodist University on Wednesday for a 5:30pm tip-off versus the Monarchs.
