Rocky Mount, N.C. - The women's basketball team of North Carolina Wesleyan picked up a pair of league wins over the weekend, downing Meredith College and William Peace University on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, to keep pace in the USA South standings.

On Saturday, Wesleyan downed Meredith by a 59-44 score.

After closing out the first half with a 9-0 run, the Bishops never trailed in the second half, although the Angels got as close as two points at 43-41 with 6:35 remaining. Senior Samantha Urquhart took over from there, scoring six of Wesleyan's next eight points to ignite a 16-3 run that provided the final margin of victory.

Urquhart finished with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds, and junior Shanice Goree chipped in 14 points, three blocks and three steals. Tiffany Bell and Monet Edwards also notched double-figures for the Bishops with 11 and 10, respectively, while Kourtney Salisbury had five rebounds and four assists on the day.

On Sunday, Wesleyan completed the 2-0 weekend with a 73-58 win over Peace.

Much like Saturday's game, the Bishops closed out the first half with a big run, this time anchored by Bell off the bench. Holding to a slim 25-23 lead with 4:01 left in the period, Bell reeled off eight straight points to kick off a 14-0 spurt that left NCWC with a 39-23 lead at the break. The Bishops went on to lead by as many as 23 in the second half before securing the 15-point win.

Bell paced Wesleyan with a team-high 18 points, while Goree netted 12. Urquhart managed a game-high 10 rebounds. As a team, the Bishops shot nearly 47 percent from the floor and held a 42-33 advantage on the boards.

At 7-4 in USA South play, the Bishops are now in a three-way tie for 4th-place in the league. Wesleyan hits the road next weekend for a pivotal league match-ups with Piedmont and LaGrange, who the Bishops swept by a combined five points back in December. Both games are slated for 2:00pm starts.
