Rocky Mount, N.C. - Seniors Leann Breeden and Samantha Urquhart each turned in solid performances on Wednesday night, helping lead their Battling Bishop women's basketball team to a 65-48 win over Averett University in USA South action. Breeden pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds and knocked down a pair of key treys in the second half, while Urquhart notched her third straight double-double with 20 points and 13 boards.

The first half saw both teams struggle to find an offensive rhythm. Urquhart's old-fashioned three-point play just before the break gave NCWC a slim 24-22 lead at intermission.

The Bishops never trailed in the second half, although the Cougars managed to erase a 10-point deficit to knot the score at 48-48 with 3:47 remaining. Wesleyan, however, closed out the game with a 17-0 run thanks to a solid defensive effort that forced the Cougars into four turnovers. The second of Breeden's two treys put Wesleyan up 56-48 with 1:39 to go and essentially sealed the team's 11th victory of the season.

Sophomore Derreon Cole joined Urquhart in double-figures with 10 points while dishing out four assists. Junior Tiffany Bell scored all seven of her points in the game-ending run and also pulled down six boards. Freshman Amanda Sherman chipped in seven rebounds off the bench.

As a team, the Bishops knocked down 17-of-22 free throws and out-rebounded the Cougars 55-36 on the night.

Wesleyan is now 10-7 in league play entering Sunday's regular season finale versus Mary Baldwin at 2:00pm. With an NCWC win and Methodist loss, the Bishops will secure the 4th seed in next weekend's USA South Conference Tournament.

Head Coach Artina Trader and her squad will be honoring Breeden and Urquhart prior to Sunday's tip-off.
