Rocky Mount, N.C. - The 18th-ranked Captains of Christopher Newport University used a strong second half to pull away from North Carolina Wesleyan for an 87-72 win on Wednesday night in Everett Gym. Senior Tiffany Bell paced a trio of Bishops in double figures with a team-high 17 points.

The Captains (2-1) came out on fire, knocking down their first eight attempts from the floor en route to an early 18-5 lead after five minutes of play. The Bishops, however, out-scored CNU 31-20 the rest of the way for a 38-36 score at the half. Freshman Kenyata Harris provided a spark off the bench, scoring ten of her 16 points during the run.

In the second half, the Bishops found themselves plagued by foul trouble, which resulted in 21 points for the Captains by way of the charity stripe. CNU's Tia Perry poured in a game-high 28 points to help her team pull away down the stretch.

In addition to Bell and Harris, freshman Jordan Cager netted 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting.

Wesleyan (1-2) will now break for two weeks before returning to action on December 4th at home versus Virginia Wesleyan. Tip-off is slated for 7:30pm.
