Lynchburg, Va. - Freshman Kenyata Harris knocked down a pair of three-pointers in the final 16 seconds -- the latter coming at the buzzer -- to give her Battling Bishop women's basketball team a thrilling 67-66 victory at Lynchburg College on Friday.

Wesleyan led only twice in the contest, holding a 2-0 advantage at the opening tip and then once more as time expired. The 39 minutes in between proved to be a roller coaster ride that featured a 17-0 run by the Hornets in the first half and an 11-point halftime deficit that grew to 17-point Lynchburg lead in the final period. 

A jump shot by the Hornets' Shannon Allen with 2:59 to go put her team up by 12 points, 64-52, and Lynchburg seemed poised to secure its sixth win of the season. The basket, however, would be Lynchburg's last. NCWC senior Kourtney Salisbury and junior NeTaih Davis proceeded to hit back-to-back lay-ups to cut the deficit to eight, while a Salisbury steal and assist on a Harris trey at the 1:11 mark made the score 64-59.

Wesleyan's defense got a huge stop on LC's next possession, which led to a bucket by senior Tiffany Bell that pulled the Bishops to within three with 28 ticks to go. The Hornets sank a pair of free throws on their next possession, but after forcing a crucial turnover, missed the front end of a one-and-one that allowed Harris to nail her second trey of the contest with 16 seconds left.

Now down just 66-64, the Bishops' defense again came up big by forcing a five-second violation on the ensuing inbounds play. Wesleyan put up a pair of missed shots in the final eight seconds, but a second offensive rebound found its way to Harris for the game-winning three pointer as the buzzer sounded, igniting a Bishop celebration around the freshman.

Harris finished with 13 points and nine rebounds on the night, while Bell secured a double-double of 15 points and 10 boards. Davis, Monet Edwards and Jordan Cager joined them in double-figures and combined for 33 points off the bench. Salisbury dished out a season-high eight assists.

As a team, the Bishops managed a remarkable 24 offensive rebounds and held a 50-40 overall advantage on the glass.

Wesleyan (2-4) opens up USA South Conference play on Tuesday at William Peace University. Tip-off is slated for 5:30pm in Raleigh.
