NCWC Women Drop League Tilt at Piedmont, 80-70

Demorest, Ga. - The Battling Bishop women's basketball team dropped an 80-70 decision at USA South foe Piedmont College on Sunday afternoon.

Wesleyan opened the game with a 9-1 run and held a 17-14 lead midway through the first half. The Lions, however, answered with a pair of momentum-changing runs, beginning with a 17-6 spurt that gave PC a 31-23 lead at the 6:09 mark. The second came on the heels of back-to-back Bishop baskets and featured a 12-0 run that put the Lions on top 43-27. They would eventually take a 48-37 lead into the break.

The Bishops got as close as five points on four occasions in the second half, the last coming on a Monet Edwards free throw that made the score 75-70 with 39 ticks on the clock. NCWC would get no closer, however, as Piedmont (10-3, 4-0 USA South) sealed the victory with a 5-for-6 showing at the charity stripe in the final 30 seconds of play.

Edwards' 12 points made her one of four Bishops to finish in double-figures. Tiffany Bell managed a team-high 16 points, while Shanice Goree and Kenyata Harris chipped in 15 and 13, respectively. Harris also pulled down eight rebounds.

Wesleyan (3-5, 1-1 USA South) will continue USA South play next weekend with home games versus Covenant on Friday at 5:30pm and Maryville on Saturday at 1:00pm.
