Staunton, Va. / Ferrum, Va. - The Battling Bishop women's basketball team split a pair of USA South contests over the weekend, downing Mary Baldwin by an 82-58 score on Saturday before dropping a 86-59 decision to 18th-ranked Ferrum College on Sunday. Saturday's win at MBC featured a career-high 35 points for senior Tiffany Bell and a second straight double-double for freshman Kenyata Harris.

On Saturday, a determined Baldwin squad kept the score close in the first half, forcing the sixth tie of the game at 29-29 with just under five minutes left in the period. NCWC sophomore Amanda Sherman proceeded to knock down a pair of free throws at the 4:33 mark that ignited a 12-4 Bishop run for a 41-33 halftime lead.

MBC continued to hang around in the second half and trailed by just three, 57-54, with eight minutes to go. Wesleyan, however, out-scored the Squirrels 25-4 the rest of the way, holding their largest lead of the day as time expired.

Bell finished 13-of-27 from the floor and knocked down a trio of three-pointers to cap her career day. Harris joined her in double-figures with 16 points and 14 rebounds, narrowly missing a triple-double with seven steals.

On Sunday, 18th-ranked Ferrum forged a 42-30 advantage at the break and used a late run to put away the Bishops. A pair of Kourtney Salisbury free throws had gotten Wesleyan as close as 59-50 midway through the second half, but much like the Bishops did to Baldwin on Saturday, the Panthers out-scored NCWC 27-9 to close out the game.

Harris turned in another solid outing with 25 points and seven rebounds, while Bell netted 17 points of her own. As a team, the Panthers shot over 57 percent from the floor in the game, compared to 26 percent accuracy for the Bishops.

Wesleyan (8-11, 6-7 USA South) continues conference play on Wednesday night at Meredith College. Tip-off is slated for 7:30pm in Raleigh.
