Bishop Women Open Season with 77-44 Victory at MACU

Elizabeth City, N.C. - Behind sophomore KeChae Parker's double-double of 21 points and 17 rebounds, the Battling Bishop women's basketball team opened the 2015-16 season on Tuesday with a 77-44 victory at Mid-Atlantic Christian.

After holding a slim 13-12 after one quarter, Wesleyan out-scored the Mustangs 23-5 in the second to forge a 36-17 lead at the half. The second half mirrored the first, with NCWC holding just a 2-point advantage in the third quarter before doubling-up MACU in the fourth 24-12 to secure the 33-point victory.

Junior Timyra Staton joined Parker in double-figures with 12 points and narrowly missed a double-double of her own with nine boards. Junior Kenyata Harris and freshman Nadiya Holley each chipped in nine points apiece. Harris and Staton also dished out three assists each.

As a team, the Bishops out-rebounded the Mustangs 69-36 and forced 32 turnovers on the night.

Wesleyan (1-0) hosts its annual Jean Edge Classic this weekend in Everett Gym. Saturday's 2:00pm game features the Bishops and Virginia Wesleyan, followed by Ferrum and Christopher Newport at 4:00pm.
