Women Can't Catch up To Pride

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The N.C. Wesleyan College women's basketball team dropped their conference game with East Division leader Greensboro College 77-65 at home Wednesday evening on Bojangles night.

Wesleyan got off to a slow start scoring just 9 points in the first quarter and only 16 in the second as they struggled shooting from the floor. The Bishops shot just 26 percent in the first half while GC shot 38 percent to lead 39-25 at the break.

The Bishops would then trim GC's lead down to nine midway through the third quarter going on a 14-9 run, but could get no closer the rest of the way. Wesleyan still shot under 30 percent in the third before shooting 50 percent in the fourth to outscore the Pride 19-17. However, GC made 7 more baskets on the night than the Bishops while shooting nearly 40 percent to get the win while improving to 14-4 overall and 8-2 in the conference.

Wesleyan did out rebound the Pride 52-52 led by senior Nadiya Holley's seven boards and 11 points. Sophomore forward Javana Jones led the Bishops with 13 points overall along with 4 rebounds, an assist and a steal while fellow sophomore guard Cydney Nichols was the final member of the Bishop trio to score in double-figures finishing with 10 points, 4 rebounds and a block.

Senior guard Jermaiyah Baker also played well finishing with 8 points, 4 rebounds, an assist and 2 steals.

Wesleyan falls to 8-12 overall and 6-5 in the conference with the defeat and will next remain home to host Pfeiffer University on Saturday at 2 PM on Elementary Appreciation Day.
