Wesleyan Women's Hoops Run Away from Methodist

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's hoops team ran away late from rival Methodist on Friday evening defeating them 75-55 inside Everett Gymnasium.

The 9th straight win runs Wesleyan's record to 11-1 overall and 9-0 in the conference.

Senior guard Cydney Nichols led the Bishops with 17 points and 3 assists inlcuding three 3-pointers while senior forward Javana Jones recorded a double double of 14 points and 10 rebounds including six offensive. Jones added 3 assists, a block and 4 steals in her stellar all-around game as well.

Fellow forward, sophomore Kayrisma Harrison also scored 14 points on 5 of 6 shooting with 6 rebounds, 3 steals, and a block. Senior wing Myrayna Watkins finished in double-figures with 11 points along with 6 rebounds, and team-bests in assists and steals with four each. Sophomore shooting guard Myesha Best then scored 6 points with four rebounds for the Bishops.

Both teams struggled to shoot the ball in the first half with Wesleyan heading into the break with a 27-20 lead as they held MU to just 8 points in the second quarter. A tight third quarter then saw NCWC outscore the Monarchs 19-17 and lead 46-37 heading into the fourth. This is where the Bishops put away Methodist with a huge 29-point fourth quarter that featured numerous fastbreaks and MU turnovers that led to many easy layups and big shots from the Bishops.

Wesleyan shot 40 percent from the field overall while MU shot 37 percent overall, but only 21 percent from three. Methodist falls to 0-7 with the loss.

Wesleyan and Methodist will complete their weekend series with a Sunday game in Fayetteville set for 2:00 pm.
