Bishop Women Smother Methodist

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's basketball team cruised to another big win on Sunday this time using smothering defense to rout Methodist 72-40 on the road.

Wesleyan remains in first place with the win improving to 12-1 overall and 10-0 in the conference.

Senior guard Cydney Nichols again led the Bishops with 20 points on an efficient 7 of 9 shooting including going 4 of 5 from three-point range. 

Wesleyan got out to a strong lead at 19-9 after one quarter before outscoring the Monarchs 21-8 in the second frame to take a 40-17 halftime lead. NCWC then used more strong defense to limit MU to just 23 points in the second half en route to taking it 32-23 and grab the 32-point win.

Wesleyan shot a strong 45 percent for the game while holding MU to just 28.8% shooting and only 21 percent from three. Sophomore forward Kayrisma Harrison also played well shooting 7 of 9 to finish with 14 points and 6 rebounds.

Senior shooting guard Kayla Johnson finished with 9 points and 4 assists while senior forward Myrayna Watkins totaled 7 points and 7 rebounds with 2 steals. Fellow senior forward Kneciya Tripp led the team with 10 rebounds including six on the offensive end while wing Javana Jones also recorded 4 points and 7 rebounds. 

Freshman G/F Nadia Simmons had a good game too with 6 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals and a block in just 14 minutes of actioon. Senior point guard Keorra Taylor led the team in assists with five and steals with 3 as well. 

Wesleyan resumes action at home on Friday when they will host Meredith College at 7:30 PM.
