Bishops Fall at Home Against Brevard

Rocky Mount, NC – The North Carolina Wesleyan University Women's Basketball team hosted conference foe Brevard College this Friday, giving the Bishops their first hard-fought conference loss of the season. The Battling Bishops saw defeat at home by a score of 77-73, leaving their season record to date being 3-1, 1-1 in conference play. To re-watch this game, you can click the link.

The first quarter saw Brevard shoot 53% from the floor and 50% from the free throw line, while the Battling Bishops shot 36% from the floor and did not see any free throws attempted.

The second quarter saw both teams shooting 40% from the floor and the Bishops shooting 33% from the free throw line. The Tornados of Brevard took a 32-29 lead against the Battling Bishops going into halftime.

The third quarter saw Brevard shoot 57% from the floor and 100% from the free throw line, while the Battling Bishops shot 50% from the floor and 66% from the free throw line with the score being 50-46 going into the fourth quarter with Brevard in the lead.

The fourth quarter went back and forth as both teams traded shots with a 78% shooting performance from the free throw line, which brought the final score to 77-73 ultimately sealing the deal for Brevard.

Leading scorers for the Battling Bishops were Juniors Nadia Simmons, the forward from Henderson, NC, and Johnay Goddard, the forward from Williamston, NC. Nadia Simmons scored an astonishing 19 points going 8 for 16 from the floor and 3 for 5 from the free throw line, adding 8 rebounds and 2 steals. Johnay Goddard scored  a stellar 18 points going 8 for 13 from the floor and 2 for 5 from the free throw line while having a 9-rebound game.

This brings the Bishops to 3-1 for the season, 1-1 in conference and will travel to play North Carolina Central University this Tuesday, November 22nd at 5:30 pm.
