Battling Bishops Celebrate a Victory Going Into Holiday Break

Rocky Mount, NC – The North Carolina Wesleyan University Women's Basketball team hosted USA South Conference member Mary Baldwin University tonight and defeated the Flying Squirrels by a score of 77 to 44.

The 1st quarter the Battling Bishops shot 10 of 15 for 66% from the floor with 8 rebounds to put 20 points on the board going into the 2nd quarter.

The 2nd quarter the Battling Bishops shot 7 of 20 from the floor for 35%, 2 of 5 for 40% from behind the arc and shot 3 of 4 from the free throw line for 75%, adding another 19 points to take a 39 to 27 lead going into halftime.

The 3rd quarter the Battling Bishops went on a 10-0 run to extend their lead against MBU. NC Wesleyan shot 9 of 18 for 50% from the floor, 2 of 5 for 40% from behind the arc and shot 2 of 2 from the free throw line to take a 61-37 lead into the 4th quarter.

The 4th quarter saw another 9-0 run that would put the game too far in distance for the Squirrels to come back, bringing the final score to 77-44 and a victory for the Battling Bishops.

The Battling Bishops had three players in double digits as the leading scorers, both scoring 14 points. Kayrisma Harrison, the senior from Weldon, NC, had a double-double for the game scoring 14 points off a 7 of 11 shooting performance from the floor. Kaniya Cromartie, the freshman from Smithfield, VA, scored 14 points off a 7 of 11 shooting performance while adding 6 rebounds. Nadia Simmons, the junior from Henderson, NC, scored 12 points off a 6 of 8 shooting performance while adding 6 rebounds and 3 steals.

The Bishops will host Virginia Wesleyan on December 29th at 3:00pm.
