Basketball's Dougherty Named Academic All-District

Rocky Mount, N.C. - North Carolina Wesleyan senior Matt Dougherty of men's basketball has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District team for his stellar performance in the classroom. A native of Ayden, N.C., Dougherty is double-majoring in Mathematics and Business Administration.

To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must have maintained at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average in the classroom and made a significant contribution to his/her team on the court. Dougherty has certainly met both sets of criteria, averaging nearly 12 points per game as the Bishops' second leading scorer this season.

The 2011 NCWC Male Student-Athlete of the Year, Dougherty is also a three-time USA South Academic All-Conference performer and a member of the NCWC President's List. A CoSIDA District 5 honoree, this is the first Academic All-District award of his career.

Congratulations Matt!
