Bishops Pick Up 65-61 Victory Over Guilford at Home

Rocky Mount, N.C. - Senior Matt Dougherty scored 16 points and Alex Murray chipped in 13 off the bench to lead the North Carolina Wesleyan men's basketball squad to a 65-61 victory over Guilford College on Wednesday night in Everett Gymnasium.  The Bishops benefited from an 18-of-23 showing at the charity stripe and seven three-pointers to secure their fifth victory of the season.

The first half saw Wesleyan forge a 36-25 advantage thanks to some intense defensive pressure that created 13 points off of 10 Quaker turnovers.  Senior Domarius led all players at the break with nine points and seven rebounds.

Wesleyan never trailed in the second half, although Guilford would get as close a three points on four occasions. Fortunately, the Bishops had an answer each time, which included going 5-for-6 at the free throw line.

Thomas finished with a double-double of 11 points and 11 boards, while Murray added seven boards and three steals to his stat line.  Wesleyan's bench out-scored the Quakers 26-10 on the night.

The Bishops are now 5-2 on the season and will host 5th-ranked Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday. Tipoff is slated for 2:00pm in Everett Gym.
