Bishops Score Comeback Win at Averett, 71-67

Danville, Va. - North Carolina Wesleyan held Averett University scoreless over the final 3:47 of the contest to earn an eventual 71-67 comeback win over the Cougars in Wednesday night's USA South men's hoops action. The Bishops, who trailed by 13 at the half, score the game's final eight points to secure their fourth straight win.

Wesleyan (13-7, 6-5 USA South) struggled offensively in the first half, shooting just 21 percent from the floor en route to a 38-25 halftime deficit.

Sparked by the play of their bench in the second half, the Bishops began chipping away at the Cougars' advantage and would take their first lead of the contest, 68-67, on a Brandon Givens' lay-up at with 1:38 remaining. Givens proceeded to go 3-of-4 at the free throw line in the final minute to finish with a team-high 18 points.

Josh Morrison, Devontae Williams and Jesse Simpson combined for 26 points and 13 rebounds off the bench, while Evan Collins dished out a game-high six assists. Givens completed with double-double with team-high ten rebounds.

The Bishops take a break from USA South play this weekend when they travel to Mid-Atlantic Christian. Tip-off is slated for 4:00pm in Elizabeth City.
