Bishop Men Advance with 70-62 Victory over Monarchs

Fayetteville, N.C. - The Battling Bishop men's basketball team has advanced to the semifinals of the 2013 USA South Conference Tournament thanks to a 70-62 victory over 5th-seeded Methodist University on Thursday at Fayetteville's Crown Center Arena. The 4th-seeded Bishops got a double-double of 27 points and 11 rebounds from the league's Player of the Year, Brandon Givens, while senior Cornelius Snow chipped in 11 points of his own.

The Bishops were able to forge a 38-29 lead at the break, but the Monarchs opened the second half with a 12-2 run to go on top 41-40 at the 16:35 mark.

Givens put the Bishops back on top with a jumper on their next possession, and although the Monarchs would get as close a single point on two other occasions, Wesleyan would not trail again.

As a team, the Bishops tallied 24 points off of Monarch miscues, while creating 13 second chance points.

Wesleyan (16-10) advances to play top-seeded Christopher Newport on Friday at 7:00pm. The two squads split their regular season series with each team winning on its home court. Friday's game will feature both live stats and a live webcast via the following links:
